What’s In Season This Summer?

Blessings,

Eating seasonally has several benefits:

  • Better flavor and freshness
  • Often lower grocery costs
  • More nutrient-rich produce
  • Supports local farmers and communities
  • Encourages variety in your diet

When fruits and vegetables are harvested at their peak, they simply taste better. If you’ve ever enjoyed a perfectly ripe peach in July, you know exactly what I mean!

Summer Fruits to Look For

As you walk through the produce section this summer, keep an eye out for:

Strawberries

Blueberries

Cherries

Peaches

Nectarines

Watermelon

Cantaloupe

Grapes

Mangoes

These fruits are naturally sweet, hydrating, and full of vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber.

Summer Vegetables to Look For

Summer also brings an abundance of fresh vegetables, including:

Tomatoes

Cucumbers

Bell Peppers

Lettuce

Spinach

Zucchini

Sweet Corn

Green Beans

These vegetables make it easy to create colorful salads, grilled side dishes, and nutrient-dense meals.

My Favorite Summer Salad

One of my favorite summer combinations is incredibly simple and always a crowd-pleaser.

Peach & Watermelon Summer Salad

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe peaches, diced
  • 3 cups watermelon, cubed
  • ¼ cup fresh basil, chopped
  • ¼ cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Fresh cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. Add peaches and watermelon to a serving bowl.
  2. Sprinkle with fresh chopped basil.
  3. Top with crumbled feta cheese.
  4. Drizzle lightly with olive oil.
  5. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  6. Toss gently and serve immediately.

This recipe is refreshing, colorful, and perfect for backyard cookouts, lunches, or a light summer side dish.

Start Simple This Week

If you’re looking to improve your nutrition, don’t overcomplicate it.

Try these simple steps:

Add one seasonal fruit to your breakfast.

Include a colorful vegetable with lunch and dinner.

Visit a local farmers market.

Try one new fruit or vegetable you’ve never purchased before.

Make the Peach & Watermelon Summer Salad this week.

Small choices made consistently can lead to big results over time.

A Final Encouragement

Healthy living doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes the best place to start is simply filling your cart with foods that are fresh, colorful, and close to the way God created them.

As you shop this summer, take advantage of the beautiful fruits and vegetables in season. Your body will thank you, your meals will taste amazing, and you may discover a few new favorites along the way.

Here’s to a healthy, vibrant summer filled with good food, good friends, and God’s abundant provision.

With gratitude,

Rhonda Stamey
